Transfers latest - Chelsea sign defender Disasi

Chelsea has reached an agreement in principle with Monaco to buy back Axel Disasi for around £38.6 million.

Disasi is in the last two years of his deal, and Manchester United and Newcastle were rumoured to be interested in him.

Before approving a move for Disasi, Monaco wanted to be sure that they had a candidate lined up. The club made a deal with Southampton over the weekend to get defender Mohammed Salisu.

Earlier this month, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said that the club could look for a new centre back after Wesley Fofana tore his ACL.

Fofana had surgery on his knee, and Pochettino said during Chelsea's preseason tour of the U.S. that he hoped the player would come back from illness sometime this season.

Pochettino can choose between Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile, who is still getting better from a leg injury he got last season.

As a right-sided center-back, Disasi will give Chelsea another choice. He lived in Reims for four years before moving to Monaco in 2020. He played three times for France at the 2022 World Cup.

He will be Chelsea's third big signing of the summer, after forwards Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkuku from Villarreal and RB Leipzig, respectively.

Pochettino's team won the first Premier League Summer Series by beating Fulham 2-0. This deal was made after they won the series.

Chelsea has agreed to pay Rennes €27 million (£23.1 million) for midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu.

The Blues haven't decided yet if the 19-year-old will join Pochettino's first team or go out on loan.

There has been talk of a short-term move to Strasbourg, where Chelsea owns most of the Ligue 1 team.

Ugochukwu came up through Rennes's youth programme and has now played 60 times for the club, including 35 in all competitions last year.

Who will be moving this summer between June 14 (when the transfer window opens) and September 1 (when it closes in England at 11 p.m. and in Scotland at midnight)?
