Lasith Malinga replaces Shane Bond as Mumbai Indians bowling coach for IPL 2024

Lasith Malinga, the former Sri Lanka bowler, will return to the Mumbai Indians as bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2024 season, replacing Shane Bond.

Malinga won five IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians before joining the Rajasthan Royals as a coach after retiring in 2021.

Malinga appeared in 139 games for Mumbai, taking 195 wickets. The IPL received 170 of them, which is tied for sixth most in the tournament's history.

Meanwhile, Bond has been with Mumbai since 2015, and he took over as the franchise's global head of performance earlier this year, when it introduced teams in the UAE (ILT20), South Africa (SA20), and the United States (Major League Cricket) T20 tournaments.

Malinga was a member of the MI New York team during the first MLC season, when it won the final by seven wickets over Seattle Orcas on July 31.
