Royal Challengers Bangalore Appoint New Head Coach, Officially End Mike Hesson, Sanjay Bangar's Term

Royal Challengers Bangalore Appoint New Head Coach, Officially End Mike Hesson, Sanjay Bangar's Term

The Royal Challengers Bangalore hired Andy Flower, who has a lot of experience, as their new head coach on Friday. This means that Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar's time as head coach is over.

The director of cricket operations, Hesson, and the head coach, Bangar, both had contracts that were up for renewal in September, but the franchise chose not to renew them.

Rajesh Menon, who is the vice president and head of RCB, talked with Flower in London before bringing him on board.

Flower said that he was excited to help the RCB reach even higher levels in the IPL 2024.

"I'm really happy to join RCB. "I respect the work Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar did as coaches, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of taking RCB to new heights," said Flower, who coached Lucknow Supergiants in the last two IPL seasons.

Flower also worked with the England cricket team for a long time and did well. They stopped working together after 12 years.

Peter Moores gave the Zimbabwean the job of assistant coach for England in 2007. Two years later, he took over as head coach, and in 2014, he did the same job for them.

During Flower's time as head coach, England's Test team became number one in the world, won the World Twenty20 title in 2010, and won the Ashes in Australia in 2010–11.

Flower has a lot of experience in the IPL. Before joining LSG, he worked for Punjab Kings.

The Zimbabwean opener said he is excited to work with RCB players, especially captain Faf du Plessis.

"I'm especially happy to be back with Faf. We've worked well together in the past, and I'm looking forward to making our partnership and friendship into something bigger and better.

"We have a great group of players to work with, and I will enjoy both the great chance and the responsibility that come with my job with RCB. "I can't wait to get started. It's a great challenge," said Flower.

Prathmesh Mishra, the chairman of RCB, said this about the choice to hire Flower as head coach: "We would like to thank Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar for their great work over the past four seasons, which led to three play-offs. People have always respected their professionalism and work spirit.

Both Hesson and Bangar thanked the franchise for giving them the chance to work with them and said that their time with the franchise was a fulfilling one.

RCB hasn't said anything yet about who will be leading their Women's Premier League team. The team's head coach is Ben Sawyer, and his deal is also being looked at as part of an internal review.
