The Men's Hundred: Tymal Mills snares hat-trick as Southern Brave rout Welsh Fire

The Hundred 2023 is shaping up to be a season of hat-tricks, and not just in one event. It began with Shabnim Ismail's remarkable hat-trick to give Welsh Fire an unbeatable lead before the former South African speedster opted to stymie Birmingham Phoenix's batters and ruin their poised run chase.

And now, Southern Brave's left-arm fast Tymal Mills has followed suit, scoring a match-winning hat-trick to assist his team defeat Welsh Fire in Cardiff on Saturday, August 12.

Apart from being in a winning cause, Mills' hat-trick has an uncanny resemblance to Ismail's in that it happened on the last three balls of the innings.

It began with Mills dismissing Ben Green with a slower delivery. Green was duped, as he could only hit straight down to Rehan Ahmed, who was fielding at backward point. Haris Rauf was the next victim.

A change-up delivery bowled outside off also undid Rauf. Given the available breadth, the Pakistan-born attempted to go over extra cover but was met by an alert Leus du Plooy, who didn't make a mess of it.

David Payne entered the game to face the hat-trick ball. Mills produced another slower ball that landed outside off on a fullish length and saw Payne attempt a reverse lap over the short third fielder in search of a boundary.

To his disappointment, he only managed to throw it straight to fielder Finn Allen, and Mills became only the second player in The Men's Hundred to score a hat-trick.

Brave didn't waste any time in reducing the low total, winning by nine wickets and 41 balls to spare.
