The opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 pitted two cricketing titans, England and New Zealand, against one another at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5. Without Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi in the lineup, stand-in captain Tom Latham won the toss and decided to bowl first in place of Kane Williamson. When England batsman Joe Root used his signature reverse ramp shot against Trent Boult to get an 80-meter six over third man, it was an insane moment.

Ben Stokes is also unavailable for the first match, as reported by England captain Jos Buttler at the toss. Due to a minor hip ailment, the management decided against pushing him into the starting lineup this early in the competition.
