Asia Cup 2023: Jay Shah To Travel To Pakistan? BCCI Official Provides Major Update - Read Report

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin next week. This year, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will host the main continental event, with four matches, including the opener, taking place in Pakistan.

The opening ceremony and first match between Pakistan and Nepal will take place on August 30 at the Multan Cricket Stadium, with the next three games planned for September 3, 5, and 6 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Pakistan will host Asia Cup matches for the first time since 2008, but the Indian squad will not travel to the adjacent country. The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele will host India's two Group A matches, against Pakistan on September 2 and Nepal on September 4.

Despite India's rejection to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, the PCB has invited BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), to attend the Asia Cup 2023 opener in Multan on August 30.

According to reports in the Indian media a few days ago, the PCB invited Shah, along with the heads of other cricketing organisations in the ACC, to attend the tournament's opening match in Multan.

When approached by crichistory.in regarding the PCB's invitation for Shah, a top BCCI official stated that the BCCI has received an invitation, but the board has yet to decide whether Shah will travel to Pakistan.

"Invitation accepted, dekhte accepted." Yes, there is an invitation; we shall see. A meeting will be held in his honour)," he stated.

There is little chance that the BCCI secretary will travel to Pakistan for the first match. Even in a recent article, a PCB source stated that the invitation was given to the ACC chief out of hope rather than any genuine anticipation of him visiting Pakistan.
