Australia's star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was one of the main contributors to his team's first victory in the current ODI World Cup 2023 on Monday against Sri Lanka.

At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, he produced his first half-century of the competition, amassing 52 runs in 51 balls to help his team defeat Sri Lanka by five wickets.

After losing their opening two games against South Africa and India, Australia gained the first two points in the tournament with this victory.

Following his pivotal role in the triumph, Marsh spoke with the broadcaster and responded to a lighthearted query posed by Indian cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar.

When Gavaskar questioned Marsh about the coaching he received from his father Geoff, Marsh responded with a fantastic joke.

Taking aim at Mitchell Marsh's strike rate, Gavaskar, who had faced Geoff, the father of the all-round player, said that the all-rounder must have learned this style of play from his father, who played in a different way.

Mitchell retorted that he is merely attempting to atone for his father's low strike rates.

"Have you never learned how to play like this from your father? "Because all you're doing is BANG, BANG, BANG," Gavaskar remarked, making defensive movements. "I'm just making up for his poor strike rates," Marsh retorted.

Marsh expressed his satisfaction at having delivered a strong performance that helped Australia win the crucial match. The five-time champions' dreams of making the semi-finals are still alive after the victory.
