Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah can get ruled out of remainder of Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan call back-ups
Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, two fast bowlers for Pakistan, might not be able to play in the rest of the Asia Cup 2023 because they got hurt during the IND vs. PAK Super Four match.
India beat Pakistan by 228 runs in an embarrassing loss during the Asian tournament's reserve day. The game was stopped by rain. The Men in Blue won in every way, giving them their biggest win ever against the Men in Green in ODIs.
Notably, Pakistan's problems seem to have gotten worse because they could lose their key pacers for the rest of the Asia Cup. ESPNCricinfo says that it is unlikely that Haris and Naseem will be able to play in the rest of the Asian competition.
It also says that they are likely going to miss Pakistan's next game, which will be against Sri Lanka. As backups for the two hurt players, Babar Azam's team has added Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan.
After losing to India, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced that Dahani and Khan would replace Haris and Naseem. "Pakistan has called up Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as backups. "Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah got hurt in the game against India, so these two have been called up," a PCB release said.
It also said that the two players were added as a protection "to make sure the players are healthy and fit for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup next month." The medical team from Pakistan will keep an eye on both Haris and Rauf.
The statement also said that the team will only ask the ACC for a replacement if the hurt pacers will be out for at least a week.
On September 10, the day India was supposed to play Pakistan in the Super Four match, Rauf had pain in his right side. He didn't bowl or bat on the backup day, so Pakistan didn't have enough bowlers. Naseem Shah, on the other hand, hurt his throwing shoulder on the backup day, but he still bowled 9.2 overs. Naseem did not show up to bat either.
