India Vs Australia ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 Predicted Playing 11: Shubman Gill And Marcus Stoinis Remain Doubtful, Ravichandran Ashwin May Play

Shubman Gill and Marcus Stoinis are both doubtful for India's and Australia's opening match of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

On Sunday, Team India and Australia are set to face off again in the opening meet of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The two teams enter the World Cup after a three-match One-Day International series just a week before the tournament begins.

Both teams are dealing with injury and illness problems ahead of their World Cup 2023 opener.

The biggest issue for Rohit Sharma's team is the likely absence of world No. 2 ODI batter Shubman Gill, who was also India's best run-scorer in the three-match ODI series against Australia despite being rested for the third game.

Gill has been suffering from dengue fever in recent days and may not be available for India's first match.

If Gill is ruled out, Ishan Kishan would most likely open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. In that case, India may not have to pick between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav for the middle-order batter position.

The Indian team will also have to choose between Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur for the No. 8 berth. With the Chepauk track appearing slow, India would be tempted to play three spinners, which is where Ashwin has an advantage over Thakur.

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis remains an injury concern for Australia, with Cameron Green expected to replace him in the lineup for the first game. On the eve of the match, leg-spinner Adam Zampa suffered a bizarre injury to his nose when swimming in the team hotel.

Aside from that, Alex Carey is expected to preserve the wicketkeeper's position for at least the first game ahead of Josh Inglis.

"We'll announce a team at the coin toss tomorrow." Stoinis is still up in the air. He'll go for a run this afternoon, but he'll probably have to jump through a few hoops first. "We'll see," Australia captain Pat Cummins remarked on the eve of the game in Chennai.
