Today, arch-rivals India and Pakistan will face off in the third match of the Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. One of the major concerns for fans is the weather in Kandy, which was cloudy in the morning.
The MET agency forecast roughly 80% likelihood of rain at the Pallekele stadium from mid-afternoon to evening in the days running up to the big match between India and Pakistan. However, there is some good news for cricket enthusiasts in India and Pakistan. Kandy's weather has significantly improved for Saturday afternoon and evening.
While the humidity will be about 89% and the cloud cover will be 98% over Kandy at the time of the toss at 230pm IST, the chances of rain have dropped to 60% in the afternoon.
The temperature is forecast to be around 26 degrees Celsius at the start of the game. However, there is a chance of rain later in the evening on Saturday, with temperatures dropping to around 21 degrees and humidity climbing to 100%. By Saturday evening, the risk of rain had increased to roughly 65%.
Fans will be hoping that the rain stays away for the majority of the play on Saturday so that we can see the whole 50-over action between India and Pakistan. Rain hampered India's last ODI against Pakistan in the 2019 Cricket World Cup in Manchester, which India won by 89 runs (DLS method).
Kandy is located in Central Province, and rain is forecast on Friday and Saturday. "Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Northwestern provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts," the Department of Meteorology said in a bulletin to Sri Lanka press on Wednesday.
"Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75mm are expected in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts."
India and Pakistan will play each other at least three times in the Asia Cup 2023, with a Super 4 battle slated for September 10 if both sides qualify, and another on September 17 if Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam's side qualify for the final.
