In the sixth match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Mitchell Santner, who excelled at both the bat and the bowl, helped New Zealand defeat the Netherlands by 99 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

Santner ended with match-winning statistics of 5/59 in his allotted 10 overs, picking up the first five-wicket haul of the ongoing tournament.

Despite their impressive efforts, the Dutch were bowled out for 223 runs, meaning they were never really in the lead in the chase.

Santner received good help from premier pacer Matt Henry, who claimed three wickets for 40 runs in 8.3 overs. After taking a wicket, Rachin Ravindra helped the Blackcaps finish the match in 46.3 overs.

No other batsman was able to score more than 50 runs, and Colin Ackermann was the Netherlands' leading scorer with 69 runs in 73 deliveries.

Earlier, New Zealand, captained by Tom Latham, amassed a huge 322/7 in their 50 overs thanks to the outstanding batting of their middle and top order.

With 70 runs, Will Young was the highest run scorer. Rachin Ravindra and captain Latham both hammered their respective half-centuries.

In the 41st over, van Meekeren removed Daryl Mitchell for 48, denying him his fifty.

Before Santner's explosive cameo gave the Blackcaps the much-needed finale, they lost wickets in the midst of the game. With the aid of three fours and two sixes, he hit 36 runs in only 17 balls, helping New Zealand to a total that won the match.

The outstanding all-rounder was declared the Player of the Match due to his efficient performances with the bat and the ball.

The Netherlands will play South Africa at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday, October 17, while New Zealand's next game is against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
