Sachin Tendulkar To Be Recognized As 'National Icon' By The Election Commission Of India

The Election Commission of India (EC) is going to recognise legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as a national icon. The coveted award will be given to the 50-year-old because he is always advocating more voter participation in the electoral process.

Furthermore, as a result of his acknowledgment, Tendulkar and the election panel will sign a memorandum of agreement on Wednesday, August 23. As part of the three-year arrangement, the former Indian batter will increase voter awareness throughout the country in advance of the upcoming elections.

The EC expects that by partnering with Tendulkar, who has had a big impact on the country's youth, it will be able to address the country's youth's apathy towards voting and have a good impact from Tendulkar as their national icon.

Many national icons have supported the EC's voting cause throughout the years. Pankaj Tripathi, a Bollywood actor, was named the EC's national symbol in 2022. Aamir Khan, former Indian captain MS Dhoni, and Mary Kom were also named national icons for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

With Tendulkar's award, the EC issued a statement expressing their belief that their work with Tendulkar will have an unprecedented impact on the country's youth.

"This collaboration would be a significant step towards leveraging Tendulkar's unparalleled impact with the youth for increasing voter participation in the upcoming elections, particularly general elections (to Lok Sabha) in 2024," the EC said in a statement.

Tendulkar, regarded as one of the best of all time, has left an incomparable legacy. Tendulkar's impact on the country's youngsters was unprecedented, with a record of 100 centuries.

It is worth noting that the 50-year-old played 664 international matches for India across all formats, scoring 34,357 runs.

He was also a member of India's iconic World Cup-winning squad in 2011. Given his communal significance, the EC declaring him a national symbol would undoubtedly be beneficial.
