At R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday, India overcame Sri Lanka by 41 runs in a low-scoring thriller anchored by Kuldeep Yadav. Dunith Wellalage, a teenage player from Sri Lanka, too shown excellent all-around abilities, but he was unable to lead his team to victory.

Despite Wellalage's valiant 42 not out, India managed to dismiss Sri Lanka for 172 after defending a total of 213 runs. India secured their position in the competition final with their victory on Tuesday.

In Colombo, the hosts used Wellalage and Charith Asalanka to help them bundle India for a modest score on the pitch that is favourable to spin. Asalanka took four wickets for eighteen, but Wellalage came back with five wickets (5 for 40).

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Rohit Sharma amassed the highest score for the Indian team with a 53-run innings.

India's four-point lead at the top of the points table was maintained with their victory over Sri Lanka, despite their net run rate (NRR) dropping to +2.690.

Even after losing on Tuesday, Sri Lanka is still in second place with two points. They have a -0.200 NRR.

Bangladesh is at the bottom of the table with 0 points from two matches, while Pakistan is in third place with two points and an NRR of -1.892.

The Pakistani-Sri Lankan match winner will move on to the event final. Bangladesh is now all but eliminated from the competition for a final beth.

On the basis of a higher NRR, Sri Lanka will proceed to the final if the rain cancels out of the match between them and Pakistan.
