On Saturday, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Indian cricket team jersey during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the international cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh in Varanasi.
The state government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has spent Rs 121 crores on land purchase for the International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi. The BCCI will spend Rs 330 crores to build the stadium.
The stadium's thematic architecture is inspired by Lord Shiva, with concepts for crescent-shaped roof coverings, trident-shaped floodlights, ghat steps-based seats, and Bilvipatra-shaped metallic sheets on the facade. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000 people.
Former Indian cricketers such as batting star Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Ravi Shastri were also present.
The occasion was also attended by BCCI president Roger Binny, vice president Rajiv Shukla, and secretary Jay Shah.
