Naveen and Kohli got into a furious argument during an IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and LSG.

Several supporters were still carrying the memory of Virat Kohli's verbal altercations with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) players during the Indian Premier League (IPL) when Afghanistan took on Bangladesh in the 2023 ICC World Cup. Under Gautam Gambhir's coaching, Naveen-ul-Haq played for LSG in the IPL last season. When Afghanistan defeated Pakistan with a modest total in their World Cup opening at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, followers of Kohli were the subject of taunting.

Naveen and Kohli got into a furious argument during an IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and LSG. During that notorious IPL match, Kohli also got into arguments verbally with West Indies batsman Kyle Mayers and LSG coach Gaurav Gambhir. Speaking about his altercation with Virat Kohli, Naveen-ul-Haq asserted that the former captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore was the one who started the players' verbal altercation during the IPL match. Naveen blamed the Indian captain for the brawl, saying that Kohli should not have said what he did both during and after the game. Both Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, the LSG mentor, were fined for their altercation during the Indian Premier League. In accordance with IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.21, Naveen acknowledged committing a Level 1 transgression.

Naveen had a difficult day in the Afghanistan vs. Bangladesh ICC World Cup match as he let up 31 runs in 5.4 overs and was removed for a six-ball duck. He did, however, succeed in dismissing Mehidy Hasan Miraz (57) to begin his World Cup 2023 career. Naveen had earlier declared that he would play for Afghanistan in the game's shortest format but will retire from the 50-over format following the World Cup.
