'Worst Possible Time To Miss Matches': Manjrekar's Blunt Take On Shubman Gill Missing World Cup Matches Due To Dengue

Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian batter, stated that although Gill is missing matches at the worst possible time in his career, it is beyond anyone's control.

Shubman Gill, the opener for India, has been unfortunate to be sick and lose the greatest opportunity of his career. The right-handed hitter was suffering from dengue in Chennai, hence he was unable to play in India's opening World Cup match. Gill is still healing from the illness, therefore he will miss two more matches against Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Gill has scored 1,230 runs, including five hundreds in 20 matches, to rank as India's top run scorer in the ODI format this year.

Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian batter, stated that although Gill is missing matches at the worst possible time in his career, it is beyond anyone's control.

It was more disappointing for him personally than for the club, as we saw in the opening game, but the team still has plenty of possibilities to be competitive. Even without Shubman Gill, the team is capable of defeating any rival because it is strong and competent.

Having said that, Shubman Gill simply strengthens the team more, and you want to take advantage of his recent form. Manjrekar told Star Sports, "This is the worst time to miss matches, and it's been beyond his control."

The 'very entertaining' batter's prowess will be missed, the veteran cricket player continued.

"But I will say that because this guy is so watchable, the fans, those who gather on the ground, and those who watch on TV will miss him." It's entertaining to watch as he hits runs with elegance. Thus, that element will be lost, but India won't be in too much danger, Manjrekar continued.

Gill-free On Wednesday, October 11, India will play Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
