Arshdeep surpasses Jasprit Bumrah, becomes fastest Indian pacer to scalp 50 T20I wickets
Team India won comfortably in the second T20I against Ireland to grab a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. While it was another Indian bowling dominance, it was extremely meaningful for Arshdeep Singh. The bowler became the fastest Indian pacer to 50 wickets in 20 overs.
In his 33rd T20I match, the Punjab-born pacer broke the record of Jasprit Bumrah, who had achieved the feat in 41 games.
Apart from Bumrah, the only other bowler with 50 wickets for the Men in Blue in the 20-over format is all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
The 24-year-old also became the joint-third-fastest pacer in T20I history with 50 wickets. Arshdeep joined Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman as the joint-third-fastest T20I wicket-taker. The other two pacers are Ireland's Mark Adair (28) and South Africa's Lungi Ngidi (32).
Eight Indian bowlers have taken more than 50 wickets in T20Is, with Yuzvendra Chahal leading the way with 96 dismissals. His bowling partner Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, owns the record for the fastest 50 wickets in T20Is. It took the left-arm spinner only 29 matches to set the record.
The Men in Blue established an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series between India and Ireland. After scoring 185, the bowlers united to limit the hosts to 152/8.
