IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill achieve major milestone as an opening pair

Virat Kohli passed 13000 runs in one-day internationals (ODIs), and Rohit Sharma reached 10000 runs in ODIs today against Sri Lanka. Rohit and Gill, who bat at the top of the order, have also reached a big milestone: they have scored 1000 runs together in the format.

In the 50-over version, they are the ninth Indian opening pair to do so. They needed 32 runs before the match against Sri Lanka and India began, but their first two batters helped them get off to a great start.

Gill and Rohit reached the 1,000-run mark as a team in just 13 games, with an average of more than 95. They added another 80 runs together, bringing the total to 1048 runs with 554 century stands.

Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are the only other openers to do this. They have scored 6609 runs in 136 innings while starting the innings, which is more than anyone else.

Rohit Sharma is back on this list. He and Shikhar Dhawan have added more than 5000 runs together. Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar are next with 3919 runs added together.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are going to open at least in the World Cup. The pair is expected to add many more runs together, and it would not be surprising if they broke many more records in the near future.
