Rahul Dravid's Report Card As Head Coach: Has This India Legend Delivered On What Was Expected?

Rahul Dravid's Report Card As Head Coach: Has This India Legend Delivered On What Was Expected?

Negative results in Indian cricket are rarely overlooked, regardless of one's stature. Even MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar have faced criticism from time to time.

The same is true for Rahul Dravid, but in his capacity as a coach. Since taking over as coach of the Indian squad in November 2021, Dravid has been hailed as the man who will end India's long and agonising wait for an ICC trophy. However, this has not been the case.

Dravid's tenure began on a high one, with India defeating New Zealand 3-0 in a T20I series in 2021. It was Dravid's debut series as India's full-time head coach. However, the famous hitter has yet to deliver on his potential on a consistent basis.

Under Dravid's leadership, India competed in two ICC competitions, the T20 World Cup 2022 and the World Test Championship final, but failed to win either. Losing to the West Indies in a T20I series was another low that no one saw coming.

How long is Rahul Dravid's contract?

After Ravi Shastri resigned down following the completion of the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rahul Dravid accepted a two-year contract with the Indian squad. Dravid's contract expires at the end of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Even if India wins the championship, it is unclear whether Dravid will remain as head coach after the big tournament.

This year, the Indian cricket team will compete in two more major tournaments: the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

While the results of the Indian team, particularly at major competitions, are important, Dravid's tenure as India's coach will be characterised only by the team's performance at those events.

With the ODI World Cup in India, Dravid will obviously be under pressure to deliver the title that the squad last won in 2011.
