Jofra Archer and Harry Brook out of Cricket World Cup after Ben Stokes U-turn confirmed

Jofra Archer and Harry Brook out of Cricket World Cup after Ben Stokes U-turn confirmed

London: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed their 15-player preliminary team for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which will be held in India beginning October 5, according to the ICC.

England's initial team for this year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup has been announced, with all-rounder Ben Stokes listed in a group of 15 players that excludes teenage hitter Harry Brook and star quick Jofra Archer.

Stokes announced on Wednesday that he had altered his decision to retire from one-day international cricket and would play in next month's four-match ODI series against New Zealand.

Later, England selector Luke Wright confirmed that the same 15 players picked to face the Kiwis are also in the tentative World Cup roster.

Brook will so miss out on his first World Cup appearance, while Wright has disclosed that Archer will only be included in England's World Cup plans as a travelling reserve.

"This is the squad we are going to put forward," Wright said on Wednesday, according to ICC.

"It's going to be extremely difficult for some players who are going to miss out." It demonstrates the strength and depth of English cricket, and there are other names banging on the door as well.

"With the balance of the squad, and only fifteen that you can name, it's incredibly tough."

"Ben Stokes' return only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership." I am confident that every England ODI fan would welcome his return to the team.

Teams have until September 5 to formally submit their tentative World Cup team to the ICC, and further changes can be made until September 28.

England's World Cup campaign kicks off on October 5 against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Before the competition, the two teams will play a four-match One-Day International (ODI) series.

England's provisional squad for the World Cup: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.
