Ravichandran Ashwin Replaces Injured Axar Patel In India's Squad For Cricket World Cup 2023

Ravichandran Ashwin Replaces Injured Axar Patel In India's Squad For Cricket World Cup 2023
Ravichandran Ashwin has been named to India's lineup for the Cricket World Cup 2023, replacing the injured Axar Patel.

In place of the injured Axar Patel, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got added to India's Cricket World Cup 2023 team.

The all-rounder Axar hurt himself in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match against Bangladesh, and he didn't get better in time for the tournament. Ashwin was on the Indian cricket team for the one-day international series against Australia that ended not long ago. He took four wickets in the two games.

India has three spin bowlers for the tournament: Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ashwin. India's first game will be on October 8 against Australia.

The 15-person Indian team for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup had to be changed at the last minute. Axar Patel hurt his left quadriceps during India's Asia Cup Super Four match against Bangladesh and did not heal in time for the World Cup.

But because of that, the spin bowler missed the Asia Cup final. "Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been named as his replacement. He did very well in his first ODI series back against Australia, where he picked up four wickets in two games," the ICC website said.

This will be the third World Cup for Ashwin who featured in the 2011 and 2015 editions.
