'Babar, biriyani kaisa tha?': Ravi Shastri stumps Babar Azam; Pakistan captain fires no-nonsense response - Watch

On the ICC Captains' Call, Ravi Shastri urged Babar Azam to express his passion for Hyderabad's biryani

Following Pakistan's historic visit to India for the ICC World Cup 2023, Babar Azam fever briefly swept Hyderabad. However, on Wednesday, in the recently concluded ICC Captains’ Call, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri kindly inquired about the top-ranked Pakistani batter. Babar and company have taken an immediate liking to Hyderabad's biryani, as the Pakistan cricket team will be in India for nearly two weeks, enjoying the famed dish.

The Pakistani players at the India World Cup rely on chicken, mutton, and fish for their daily protein intake. Renowned pundit Shastri asked Babar to share his fondness for Hyderabadi biryani during the special engagement at the ICC Captains' Call in Ahmedabad. "I've answered it 100 times already, sau baari baata chuke hain," Babar retorted. Online users have taken notice of the Pakistani captain's remarkable response on social media.

Babar rates the biryani from Hyderabad eight out of ten

Babar was frank in expressing his opinions about Hyderabadi biryani in a video that ICC posted on Instagram. That's what they do best. The Biryani from Hyderabad! And an eight out of ten, in my opinion! However, it's a little hot," Babar had mentioned. For the first time, the Green Army's top batter is in India. When Pakistan last visited India for an ICC event in 2016, Babar was sidelined with an injury.

"It feels like home."

Babar stated during the pre-World Cup press conference that he had not anticipated the positive response Pakistani players had got in India. "We were not prepared for the level of hospitality we received, but based on the reactions we have received, I believe everyone had a good day. We have been in Hyderabad for a week, so it feels more like home than it does like we are in India. Everyone has a fantastic opportunity, in my opinion, to enjoy the event and give it their all," Babar remarked.

Babar smashes 90 vs Australia

In the practise match against Australia, Pakistani skipper Babar warmed up for the ICC World Cup in India with a superb innings. In Tuesday's match against Australia's Pat Cummins, Babar struck 90 off 59 balls at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. At the same location on Friday, Babar's Pakistan team will take on the Netherlands in their ODI World Cup opener.
