Ben Stokes issues 4am statement as England Ashes stars accused of snubbing Aussies

Ben Stokes issues 4am statement as England Ashes stars accused of snubbing Aussies

Ben Stokes, the captain of England, explained why his team did not have drinks with Australia after the game at the Kia Oval. The all-rounder sent out a message early this morning to confirm that the two teams had instead gone out for a night on the town.

On the last night of the series on Monday, England tied the Ashes at 2-2. Stuart Broad got his happy finish when, on his last day as a professional cricketer, he took the last two wickets.

One of the most exciting Ashes games in recent memory came to an end. When the Australia team picked up the urn, there wasn't much of a party because they knew they'd lost the chance to win a series in England for the first time since 2001.

Moeen Ali also said that it was his last Test match, so Broad isn't the only one leaving. At the end of a series, it is normal for the teams to meet at the ground and have a few drinks together.

On Monday, though, that didn't happen. The Guardian says that the Australia players tried to get in touch with the England dressing room but were unable to do so. They left the pitch at about 10.45pm.

But Stokes has said that men from both teams actually met up at a nightclub. In a tweet sent at 4:11 a.m., he explained why the party didn't happen on the ground.
