‘Nobody Is An Automatic Choice’: Rohit Sharma On Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul’s Return To Playing XI

With the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup 2023 coming up quickly, the Indian Cricket team is concerned about the fitness of key players KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Both players are on the mend after receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Due to their injuries, they have been out of play for several months. However, with the Indian side poised to be selected for both the Asia Cup and the World Cup, skipper Rohit Sharma has revealed if these newcomers will be an automatic selection for the event in India.

Captain Sharma discussed if Rahul and Iyer will be awarded direct admissions for the Laliga EA Sports season while appearing at an event to promote the Laliga EA Sports season.

"No one is an automatic (selection), not even myself." We cannot say something like 'you are thereafter all' or similar. Yes, some players know they will play, but at this point in time, playing three One-Day Internationals in the West Indies was a nice opportunity to look at a few men. "We will face tough competition in the Asia Cup again," Sharma remarked.

Sharma then expressed sympathy for these players' injuries, saying he understands how they feel after undergoing surgery. "Shreyas and KL have been out for four months due to major injuries and surgeries.

"Both underwent surgery. I know how it feels after surgery because I had to go through it once. "We'll have to wait and see how they react and what they do," Sharma added.

In a few days, there will be a selection meeting: Sharma

The captain also indicated that a selection meeting would be held in the coming days, and that there will be a lot of discussion about the combinations. "The selection (meeting) will be in a few days, and we'll have a good discussion about what we can do.

"But, to be honest, no one is an automatic choice; they all have to compete for the position… I'd like to watch some of the boys bat under duress against great teams in the Asia Cup.

"It's always better to have a lot of names than just one or two." First and foremost, I hope they can be fit in time. They've been at NCA for four months and have been working extremely hard. "It appears to be positive, fingers crossed," he said.
