He's Not Played A Single ODI, But Sourav Ganguly Wants THIS Batter In Indian Top Order For World Cup 2023

He's Not Played A Single ODI, But Sourav Ganguly Wants THIS Batter In Indian Top Order For World Cup 2023

The ICC Men's One-Day International World Cup 2023 is quickly approaching. India are yet to finalise their squad as selectors continue to monitor the fitness of several players, including KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.

While sources indicate that Rahul is nearing match fitness, there are questions over Iyer's availability for the World Cup.

The BCCI selectors are expected to gather on August 21 to choose the squad for the Asia Cup 2023, and once that team is announced, we will have a better sense of who the final 15 for the World Cup could be.

The debate regarding India's No. 4 position continues. If not Iyer, who? Sourav Ganguly, a former India captain, has an answer. And his response, when posed this topic at a function in Kolkata on August 18, was not typical of Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan.

Ganguly stated that India has numerous choices for No. 4, one of whom is Tilak Varma. "Who said we didn't have a fourth? We have a lot of (batsmen) who can bat there. I think differently; I have a different mindset.

"This is a fantastic side," Ganguly stated on the sidelines of a Denver ceremony where he was named 'Brand Face.' "As a left-hander, I see Tilak Varma as an option," Ganguly remarked.

Ganguly also mentioned Yashasvi Jaiswal as someone who should be in the top order. He stated that Tilak and Yashasvi's lack of experience should not be seen negatively. "He (Tilak) is a very good young player with little experience, but that is irrelevant.

" I'd also want to see the young left-hander (Jaiswal) at the top of the order. He has tremendous talent and is courageous. So this is a nice side," Ganguly remarked.

"It has to be an experienced team with no scars, like Jaiswal, Varma, and Ishan Kishan." They can go out there and play brave cricket.

"Rahul (Dravid), Rohit, and the selectors have plenty of options; all they have to do is identify and select the best XI," Ganguly added.

The Asia Cup 2023 will serve as a useful practise ground for five of the nations who will compete in the World Cup.

So yet, only Pakistan and Bangladesh have confirmed their squads for the Asia Cup 2023. On September 2, India will face Pakistan in one of the tournament's key games in Kandy.
