Watch: Ravindra Jadeja bowls a stunner to dismiss Steve Smith. Virat Kohli was surprised
Ravindra Jadeja bowled an incredible stunner to dismiss Steve Smith during India's play against Australia in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Ravindra Jadeja bowled an absolute stunner to eliminate Steve Smith during India's 2023 Cricket World Cup match against Australia in Chennai on Sunday. Smith appeared to be in fine form until Jadeja chose to assault him with a back-of-the-length delivery.

The ball landed near the leg-stump line before turning swiftly to clip the top of the off-stump.

The Australian batsman did play to the line of the pitch, but the late deviation caught him off guard. Smith was surprised by the delivery, and even Virat Kohli was taken aback by the movement of the ball, which gave India a key wicket.

For Jadeja, the Chepauk surface felt like a Test match wicket, with some deliveries turning and others going straight.

"The ball was stopping after it pitched the way I started the first over." When it got hot in the afternoon, the wicket appeared to be dry. I figured the stump line would be ideal since some balls would dart in while others would turn. As a result, the batsman's task will be difficult.

"My intention was to bowl on the stump, but the ball to Smith turned more." This looked like a classic Test match wicket to me. "We shouldn't try anything and bowl stump-to-stump," he remarked.

The all-rounder was also questioned how his role differed from Ravichandran Ashwin's and Kuldeep Yadav's. When he heard the question, he burst out laughing.

"There is no part. Our only role is to grab as many wickets as possible as quickly as possible."

Jadeja went on to describe the pitch.

"On that wicket, all three (spinners) would have believed the same: "I should get more wickets." And if that's what you're thinking, you're not incorrect. If everyone thinks this way, the opposing team will be knocked out swiftly." He did agree that Smith's dismissal was a watershed moment.

"I believe that was the turning point...a wicket like Steve Smith's." From then on, it was difficult to come in and rotate the strike for the new batters.

"From there, they went from 110 to 199 all-out." I am familiar with the situations in Chennai. I've been here (for CSK) for around 10-11 years. I understand how the conditions on this land function. "I enjoyed it, and whatever I contribute to the team makes me happy," he stated.
